Family Medicine Residency-Temporarily Closed

Currently our Family Medicine Residency program is not currently operating. In the near future, we aim to resume this program to help train the next generation of physicians.

Rurally located program - Gallup, NM

RMCHCS is a private non-profit hospital located in Gallup, the county seat of McKinley County, in Northwest New Mexico. Our residency program is designed to train full-spectrum family medicine doctors to work in a rural context and to understand the nuances of caring for a largely Native American population. In this unopposed program, you will be part of a cohort of four new residents per year. Residents will have exceptional access to experienced family doctors and specialists throughout all three years of training. The program capitalizes on RMCHCS' robust group of healthcare providers and professionals and will emphasize team-based care and care coordination for a vulnerable population

Unique Features

RMCHCS Family Medicine, based in Gallup, New Mexico, will provide a unique opportunity to serve the local Native American populations including the Navajo Nation, Pueblo of Zuni, and others. Elective rotations at Indian Health Service and other partner sites will provide further exposure to Native American life, culture, and the challenges faced in seeking care.

Residents will learn from excellent community-oriented primary care, hospital, and specialty providers, develop a robust procedural skill set, and learn in a truly rural and underserved area.
