MEDICAL LABORATORY TECHNICIAN - Laboratory
Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Director, Laboratory performs perform laboratory procedures in a timely and accurate manner according to established hospital and departmental policies and procedures. The MLT is able to perform procedures on the following age classifications: neonate, pediatric, adult and geriatric.
•Associate's degree from an accredited MLT program and/or an equivalent combination of training and experience as accepted by the accrediting agencies for registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician.
•Graduating students must successfully challenge the registry within 12 months of graduation.
•Must have the ability to perform medical laboratory procedures in accordance with the policies and protocols in effect.
•Must be familiar with the technology related to practice in the assigned sections.
•Have sufficient sight (including color discrimination), manual dexterity and mobility to function effectively in exercising job responsibilities.
•Must be able to work well and effectively with others.
•Must be able to recognize consequences of error.
•Appreciate patient confidentiality.
•Must be able to cope and deal with stressful situations.
•Licensure & Certifications:
•Registered as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) with the American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), or equivalent.
•Current verification in Basic Life Support. (If BLS verification is not current upon hire must be obtained within three (3) months of hire.)
