REGISTERED NURSE - ICU
Position Summary: The Registered Nurse is responsible to the Director, Intensive Care, Clinical Nurse Manager, or Charge Nurse to provide age appropriate and culturally sensitive care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Competency is evaluated based on assessment of the nurse's ability to utilize the nursing process as it applies to Intensive Care Nursing, to formulate an appropriate plan for care, and to analyze the effectiveness of interventions, while effectively interacting with patients, significant others, and other health team members, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. Duties are of considerable difficulty and are based on scientific principles and standards of nursing practice and a thorough knowledge of interrelatedness of body systems and the dynamic nature of life processes.
•Graduation from a School of Nursing.
•Under the general direction of the Director, Intensive Care the Clinical Nurse Manager, Critical Care Nurse provides age appropriate and culturally sensitive care to pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric populations.
•Competency is evaluated based on assessment of the nurse's ability to utilize the nursing process in the prevention of and intervention in life-threatening situations.
•Care is planned based on assessment data and interventions are evaluated based on measurable outcomes to care.
•Duties are of considerable difficulty and are based on a thorough knowledge of interrelatedness of body systems and the dynamic nature of life processes.
•RN I may also function as charge nurse.
•Frequent contact with nurses from other units, ancillary staff, medical staff, patients, families, visitors, law enforcement officials and providers from other health care agencies.
•Demonstrates ability to set-up Portable ventilators.
•Demonstrates ability to correctly interpret cardiac rhythms and implement appropriate intervention.
•Verbalizes indications for External Cardiac Pacemaker.
•Verbalizes methods to verify pacemaker capture (External & Transvenous).
•Demonstrates ability to set-up and apply External Pacemaker.
•Demonstrates correct paddle placement, pressure, energy level and safe use of defibrillators.
•Demonstrates ability to provide care that is appropriate for age, culture and disease process.

•Demonstrates ability to correctly interpret cardiac rhythms and implement appropriate intervention
•Verbalizes purpose for documenting patient's level of sedation after administering pain medication.
•Demonstrates ability to set up hemodynamic pressure measuring devices.
•Able to verbalize indications for hemodynamic pressure measures.
•Able to verbalize abnormal hemodynamic pressure readings.
•Able to explain the concept of cardiac output measures
•Licensure & Certifications:
•Current license to practice professional nursing in the State of New Mexico
•RMCHCS Core competencies within three months of hire.
•Current certification in Basic Life Support (If BLS certification is not current upon hire, must be obtained within three months of hire).
•ACLS and TNCC must be completed within six months of hire.
•PALS and ENPC must be completed within one year of hire.
•National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification 6 months after hire.
